Science you can check. Ethics we put in writing.
Body language is full of hype — “read anyone in seconds”, “spot every lie”. We don’t do that. Here, plainly, is what our work stands on, what we will never claim, and how we handle consent, privacy and the limits of reading people.
What we stand on
- Patterns, read in context. Cues are interpreted in clusters and against a person’s own baseline and situation — never as absolute verdicts.
- Grounded in published research. FACS (the Facial Action Coding System), micro-expression and non-verbal communication studies — not pop-psychology guesswork.
- A learnable skill. With structured practice and feedback, most people improve — that’s what the courses and 1:1 work are built for.
What we will never claim
- “100% lie detection.” No method — ours included — can detect deception with certainty. Anyone who promises it is selling a myth.
- “Read anyone in seconds.” A single gesture means nothing. We teach baselines and context — the opposite of party tricks.
- Manipulation or “mind control.” This work is for understanding and connection, never coercion. We decline briefs that aren’t.
Consent & privacy
- We don’t “read” people without their knowledge in our teaching.
- Session recordings are made only with explicit consent, and deleted on request.
- We name the real risk of being mis-read, and teach humility with it.
Limits we’re honest about
- Culture changes meaning — an Indian context isn’t a US textbook.
- Neurodivergent expression differs; cues are not universal.
- We refer out wherever clinical care is the right call.
Where the training comes from
Kanan’s methods draw on three international schools — named, so you can check them — plus formal study in clinical psychology and communication.
Microexpressions & body language
- Paul Ekman International (the FACS / micro-expressions tradition)
- Center for Body Language
- Humintell
Psychology & communication
- MS in Clinical Psychology — Kanan practises as a psychotherapist
- MBA in Communication Management
- India’s first certified micro-expressions trainer — what that certification involves, explained, not just asserted
Therapy, coaching, or skills — which is this?
We keep three lines of work clearly separate so you always know what you’re getting:
- Skills — body language & microexpression courses and workshops.
- Professional performance — applied, role-specific 1:1 work (interviews, sales, on-camera).
- Therapeutic — psychotherapy & trauma-aware work, delivered by Kanan as a practising psychotherapist.
Our boundary, plainly: we are not a clinical mental-health emergency service, we don’t diagnose or prescribe, and we refer out for diagnosis or intensive clinical care when that’s what serves you best.
Ethics & evidence — FAQ
Do you claim 100% lie detection?
No. No method can detect deception with certainty. We read cues in clusters, against a person’s baseline and context — a tool for awareness, never an absolute verdict.
Is this manipulation or mind-reading?
No. This work is for understanding and connection, never coercion — and a single gesture never “reveals” someone. We decline briefs that aim to manipulate.
What research is it based on?
FACS and micro-expression research in the Ekman tradition, plus non-verbal communication and emotion science — backed by formal certification and clinical psychology study.
How do you protect privacy?
We never read people without their knowledge in teaching; recordings are consent-only and deleted on request; and we’re explicit about the risk of being mis-read.
